National Parks Showcase
1 Anticipatory Set
Can anyone name a National Park? Has anyone ever visted one? How were they established?
Students will experience the beauty and splendor of America's national parks utilizing a variety of media including video, apps, and print materials.
Students can choose to:
1. View a YouTube playlist of National Parks videos
2. Use the iPad to explore National Parks apps
3. View the National Parks Service website
Students will complete a National Parks Quest to learn about the history of the National Parks system, and discover the majesty of the 58 national parks. Students will complete a KWL chart to assist in finalizing their selection of a national park to research.
2 Collaboration/Question development
Students will be grouped according to interest to discuss what they would like to learn about their national park. Questions will be compiled, categorized and delegated to the group.
3 Conduct Research
Students will use a variety of tools to conduct research on their National Park. Choices include, but are not limited to:
Take notes with VideoNot.es while watching videos w/Closed Captioning turned on from YouTube (58National Parks, National Geographic, Finley Holiday channels) or other sources.
