1 Hook Attention Getter

Padlet
Free, Paid

Teacher will set up a Padlet board for students to access.

Teacher will ask students to think about what it will be like to share a room with someone else in the near future?

How will this make them feel?

Does anyone have experience room sharing already?

Student Instructions

Students will use Padlet to brainstorm, in English, characteristics of the ideal college roommate.  Class will discuss responses before teacher reviews next steps in lesson.

2 Direct Instruction

Teacher will model creating a Voki account.

Teacher will model creating a Voki avatar, changing physical traits, adding clothing, and "bling."

Teacher will model adding Spanish audio describing avatar's likes/dislikes about school, sports, work and other areas of life (see Independent Practice for student requirements.)

Students have the option of calling in to a provided telephone and entering a pin to add audio or using the microphone on the computer or device.  The latter is the recommended method.

3 Independent Practice

Voki Classroom
Free to Try, Paid

Students will now work on creating their own Vokis, recording an introduction to their avatar in Spanish and describing their interests.

Student Instructions

Independent Practice:

Students will create a Voki with the following information:

Introduce yourself with your name, where you are from, and 3 likes/dislikes about school/classes/job/life.  Describe yourself with 3 personality characteristics and integrate 2 new vocabulary words/expressions.

Indicate the type of roommate you want/wish to have by using 5 sentences that use 5 different subjunctive expressions/verbs that you are learning.

If teacher uses a blog or class website, have students submit the embed code from competed Vokis to the teacher.  Teacher can embed student Vokis for review on a website or blog.  Alternatively, have students email teacher Voki from the email feature in Voki.

Students will listen to at least 5 Vokis to determine the best roommate match for them.  They will complete a Google Doc chart noting common traits, common likes, common dislikes, and other important features for each of the Vokis, ranking them in order from most compatible to least compatible.

They will then select their top two choices and justify why they believe they are the best fit to be their college roommate.
