Mind Mapping

Learning how to mind map

Students will be able to create a mind map about themselves.

1 Hook

Have the students open a word document if they are on a computer of a notes page if they are on an iPad have them open a notes page. Then have them make a list of at least 10 things about them, it can be about thier family, what they like to do, where they are from. It can be anything they want, it just has to be about them.

Open either a word document or a notes page. Make a list of at least 10 things about you, it can be about your family, where you are from, what you like to do. It can be anything at all, it just has to be about you.

2 Guided Practice


Have the students open Popplet, the website if they are on a computer of the app if they are on an iPad. After they do this, have them create a Popplet account. You are going to guide them in creating a small portion of a mind map about themselves. Before they start making anything show them this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uubtN4ybYE

After watching this, tell them to choose three things from thier list and make it into a small Popplet.

Pick three things off your list about yourself. Start making a Popplet with these things.Your teacher will be walking abour for help, and checking in with everyone periodically.

3 Independent Practice


Make sure everyone understands how to create a Popplet as well as a mindmap. Have the students make a mind map of thier favorite movie on their own.

Student Instructions

Now that you understand how to create a Popplet and a mindmap about yourself. Create one about your favorite movie, using Popplet again.

4 Wrap Up


After they have completed thier Popplet of thier favorite movie, have them get together with a parnter and share both Popplets they made in class.

When you are done, get together with a partner and share both of the Popplets you created today.
