1 Direct Instruction of the Key Economic Concepts of Production of Goods and Services
In this sequence of lessons, students watch the series, Econ and Me. The lesson sequence involves students that have needs and wants that are met through goods and services. The students also produce a play and identify the resources necessary to produce the play. During the videos, students are prompted to discuss the economic concepts that are itnroduced throughout the video series.
2 Guided Practice in Identifying the Resources Needed to Produce a Product
Using a lesson created by the Michigan Citizens Collaborative Curriculum:
The teacher reviews the resources needed to create a product. Then, as a class, the teacher creates a resources anchor chart from the list found on the internet of major Michigan companies.
The anchor chart is left hanging in the classroom as a reference for further practice.
3 Small Group Practice Identifying the Resources to Produce a Product
In this step, students work together in small groups and create a chart that shows the resources needed to produce a product. After selecting a product they have found on the list:
Students work together to brainstorm the human, capital, and natural resources needed to produce a product. The posters are shared with the other groups in the class.
4 Independent Practice Identifying the Resources to Produce a Product
In this step, students work independently to create a poster that shows the natural, human, and capital resources needed to produce a product. After selecting a product from another website:
Students create a poster with the resources that they feel are needed to produce the produce. After creating the poster, they share their poster with the class.
