#### 1 Introduction/ Hook

The teacher will play the video of Sid the Science Kid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPEcTmySUIs

The teacher will have the students watch the video and then they will discuss what the rulers are and what the other things we can use to measure are. We will also discuss nonstandard measurements before the students do the activity.

Student Instructions

The students will watch the video and then they will discuss the different ways to measure things such as a ruler, yard stick and measuring tape as well as nonstandard measurements.

#### 2 Direct Instruction

The teacher will go to the link for the Kahoot and will guide the students through what they will do and how they will complete the Kahoot. The Kahoot is about what you would use to measure different objects.

Student Instructions

The students will use their cell phones or another technology to answer the Kahoot questions.

#### 3 Guided Practice

Activity: Exploring

The teacher will pass out a worksheet where the students will cut and paste the different objects into the column to say which measurement would be used to measure that object.

The students will cut and paste the objects into the column that corresponds to what would be used to measure that object.

#### 4 Independent Practice

Activity: Assessing

The teacher will have a variety of objects that the students will measure in both standard measurements and nonstandard measurements. The students will first meaure objects in inches and then they will use a "worm ruler" to meausre the objects. They will have a worksheet and they will write down the length of them and say which is the longest and which is the shortest. This will be the assessment.

Student Instructions

The students will get a set of paper objects that they will measure with inches and then with worm rulers. They will write down the different measurements. They will then answer the questions such as what object was the longest and what was the shortest.
