Hook: Introduction to Matter: solids, liquids, gasses http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/matter/solidsliquidsandgases/ Teacher will hook students through brainpop jr video introducing solids, liquids, and gasses. She will then have students turn and talk to their neighbors about examples of solids, liquids, and gases they know.
Students will view video and then turn and talk with their neighbors giving examples of solids, liquids, and gases that they know.
2 Direct Instruction
Direct Instruction of Solids, Liquids, and Gasses through matter flipchart: Matter. Teacher will go through Matter flipchart with students: Slides include definitions, examples, and interactive sorts of different types of matter for students. Teacher will give students notes for the science journals.
Students will fill in notes and participate in flipchart interactive slides- coming to board to sort solids, liquids, and gasses.
3 Guided Practice
Teacher will need class iPad cart - distribute iPads to each child ensuring that all are connected to Wifi. Teacher will use AppleTV to show students how to login to Kahoot.it and how to put in the game pin. Teacher will facilitate game, go over each question clearing up misconceptions, and then analyze results to see what needs to be retaught for each student.
Students will read each question and chose an answer for each question.
4 Independent Practice
Worksheet: Sorting solids, liquids, gasses Sorting/Applying knowledge Google Doc
Give students time to cut and sort types of matter. Walk around and correct any misconceptions. Students will cut and sort types of matter into the correct column.
5 Wrap Up
Create an Educreations explaining the differences between solids, liquids, and gases.
Teacher will give tutorial on how to add images and navigate through Educreations then instruct students to work with a partner to create an Educreations explaining solids, liquids, and gases.
Students will work with a partner to make an Educreations that explains the differences and gives examples of solids, liquids, and gases.
