1 Listening

Using the youtube clip of MLK "Beyond Vietnam" speech, students will listen to his use of rhetorical devices/appeals

2 Reading and Collaborating

Activity: Reading

Hand out hard copy of speech text for students to reference when responding to the questions. Students will read over speech as a group, and locate where the best use of rhetorical appeals/devices are in the speech.

3 Collaboration

Free, Paid

In groups, students will create a google doc for collaboration/listing rhetorical devices/appeals. Once they finish this, they will start creating their own modern-day persuasive speech.

4 Group Speech

Activity: Creating

Groups will compose their own modern-day persuasive speech and share it with their peers.
