Students will be able to...observe objects can only be seen when light shines on them. Some materials allow light to pass through them; others allow only some light to pass through; and some do not allow any light to pass through and will create a shadow of the object. Technology such as mirrors can change the direction of a beam of light.

Student Instructions

Students will work in pairs to collaborate about what they see in their dark bedroom. 

Students will look at a picture of light and write about thier noticings using Padlet. 

2 Direct Instruction

Teacher will show a video of light. Discuss video/vocabulary/wonderings. 

Student Instructions

Students will take notes during video in their science notebooks. 

3 Guided Practice

Activity: Exploring

Create a box with objects inside.

card board box, flashlight, cloth, glass, toys, foil, wax paper


Student Instructions

Students will use a flashlight to look into a dark card board box to observe what effect light has on different types of objects. Students will share thier observations. 

4 Independent Practice

Teacher will provide students with the EdPuzzle-Light. 

Student Instructions

Students will watch and complete an assessment on light after viewing EdPuzzle. 

5 Wrap-Up
