Objectives

1 Engage

Activity: Other — Cell Phone Investigation

On the board I will have category bubbles:

Important people

Inventions/ Technology

Environmental Impacts

Living Quarters

Labor

Banking

Student Instructions

Using their cell phones (individually or in groups) the students will investigate each category bubble. Once they find something, they have to get up and place it on the board.

If their answer is already there they must find or add something new. 

2 Explore

Padlet
Free, Paid

I will demonstrate using my own tablet how they will use Padlet to create an informal presentation. 

Student Instructions

The students will get into groups and chose a topic that was placed under the category bubbles on the board.

In groups: Using PadLet the students will explore their selected fact and post more in depth information about this subject.

Include:

Factual information

Pictures

Video

Using Padlet: The students will present their findings in an informal discussion based presentation about their chosen topic.

**Students will be able to reference this while studying for future quiz or test. 

3 Explain

I will present the YouTube video- Crash Course: Industrial Revolution

**Video is used for auditory learners and for engagement

Power “Pointed” Notes- Students will be presented with quick “pointed” notes that they will use for reference.

**Pointed notes are for tactical learners

**Time period photographs will be added for visual learners

They will be encouraged to add these notes to their Padlet presentations.

4 Elaborate

I will place pictures of inventions that I would like the students to explore using Journeys of Invention. 

Student Instructions

Using Journeys of Invention: Science and Technology from Past to Present the students will explore and learn more about the inventions listed on the board.

**The students can add notes to Padlet or in a notebook for studying later.

5 Evaluate

Activity: Other — Exit ticket: Tell me what you learned today! What do you want to learn more about?

I will evaluate the students’ comprehension by letting them tell me what they learned and what they want to learn more about.

I want to be able show them that this is their environment for learning. If they want to know something more about the subject, I will make sure to cover it the next day or week in class. 

Student Instructions

Students will write a short note about what they learned and what they want to learn about then place the note in a mailbox next to the door.
