GILT 631 Spanish Lesson Flow
1 Hook:Attention Getter
Teacher will greet students upon entering the classroom and engage in brief activity with Socrative in which students will respond to prompts using the school and leisure activity vocabulary. Teacher can ask a quick entrance question or use it to set up a quick quiz to guide the lesson.
Students will respond to questions and engage in brief warm up conversation. Students will follow instructions for responding to the Socrative activity . Results will be used to determine additional needs for the lesson and reinforcement of some grammar and vocabulary topics.
2 Direct Instruction
Teacher will direct students to a Padlet wall which has the infinitives listed at the top. Teacher will instruct students to write a sentence in English using a form of the verb "to know". Students will have a few minutes to add their sentences to the Padlet. Once completed, teacher will go through each example and with help of students, place the English sentence under which verb would be used in Spanish. Discussion will be held to determine the reason for using the verb.
Padlet will enable the students to all respond, keep class more focused and require less time organizing the thoughts by using the Padlet wall for posting.
Students will Padlet wall which has the infinitives listed at the top. Teacher will instruct students to write a sentence in English using a form of the verb "to know". 3 Direct Instruction
Teacher will ask questions using the verbs SABER and CONOCER and add the chapter vocabulary to ask if students have knowledge of clubs, activities, and the sponsors or requirements for being a member. The questions will reinforce the material presented in the Educanon video and activities.
Students will be able to understand the differences between the two verbs and respond accordingly to questions using each verb. Students will be able to express the requirements, names of club and sport sponsors, using the correct verb.
4 Guided Practice
Teacher will direct students to watch the video and complete the activities in the Educanon lesson on the verbs SABER and CONOCER. While students are completing the lesson, teacher can track progress and completion. Once the lesson is completed, the teacher can use the information to provide additional instruction or reteach as needed. It will also enable the teacher to track individual student understanding for more direct itneraction with students and provide support as needed.
Students will watch the video through Educanon and complete the activities throughout the lesson. Students will be able to understand which verb to use when describing knowledge and have the opportunity to move at their pace and see their own understanding, allowing for some reflection as the lesson progresses.
5 Independent Practice
The teacher will direct students to work on the lesson for chapter 1 using Blendspace. Students will be directed to start with the quiz at the beginning so the teacher can assess their understanding following the beginning activities of the class. Once the quiz has been taken, students will work through the lesson at their pace and based on their needs. The teacher will move around the room and monitor student progress, respond to requests for help and assess students needs based on the activities they are using.
Students will work through a Blendspace Lesson. They will log in to their account so their work can be followed and progress tracked. Students will work through a lesson on Realidades chapter 1A and 1B using Blendspace. Students can select specific activities based on their level of understanding.
Students will complete a short quiz in the lesson to assess their knowledge before proceeding through the lesson. Students will be able to read, listen to, and comprehend conversations and the use of vocabulary related to school and leisure activities.
6 Independent Practice
Teacher will refer to course syllabus as an example as well as student created projects using Piktochart. The chapter vocabulary and verbs for expressing "to know" will be required in the project, with requirements provided through the mini-project rubric.
Teacher will move around to provide assistance as needed during the project work in class.
Students will be able to see how the infographic is created and the presentation mode to decide how to create their own club infographic.
Students will have time to work on creating a club "flyer" or "brochure" to advertise a club or activity. Students will follow the requirements in the rubric for completing the mini-project. Additional time will be required for completion outside of the classroom.
Teacher will create a game of review using Quizizz. The teacher will have students engage in a game of Quizizz to assess mastery of vocabulary and receive immediate feedback from results. Teacher will use student results to focus next portion of lesson and to reinforce vocabulary and grammar concepts. The data will be saved and questions can be shown on the screen to discuss areas of difficulty or frequent errors.
Students will play a review game of Quizizz and enter Spanish names so their progress can be tracked. Students play at their own pace. All results will be available and students can see which questions were missed during the game/assessment. Students will join by going to join.quizizz.com and entering the game code and their name.
Students will participate in discussion of some of the frequent errors and work on clarification.
