Activity: Investigating

"In this game, designed for ages 8-10, the CyberPigs play on their favourite website and encounter marketing ploys, spam and a close encounter with a not-too-friendly wolf.

The purpose of the game is to teach kids how to spot online marketing strategies, protect their personal information and avoid online predators.

The accompanying Teacher's Guide explains how to play the game, gives background information on the issues of online marketing, spam and children's privacy and provides activities and handouts for classroom use."- as sited on


Take an online field trip to -


1. Imagine- it is a 30 minute bus ride to visit the penguins...pretend to go...

2. Watch penguins for 5 to 10 minutes

3. Pretend the return trip also...

Introduce key terms- Internet and Online-  Globe, map, Compass Rose, north, south, east, west, continent, ocean

Using "The Continent Song" (1:56) on youtube - review continent locations and names.

4 Independent Practice

Explore App - Planet Geo educatinal games to learn geography for kids and teenagers- in teams locate a place they would like to visit.  Group creates a poster of the place they wish to go and at bottom write the safety rules for going places online.

Make sure to provide share time with the groups.

5 Wrap-Up

Activity: Creating

Using the "Show me" app- each group creates a production to share that focuses on the rules for visiting places online.
