1 Overview

Activity: Other — Defining a Problem

Students will view the video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kSwi0OWSaE entitled, "Living with Severe Food Allergies:  Our Special Life".



2 Generating

Activity: Other — Brainstorming

Students will brainstorm the various environments in which a child might be in peril based on the food that is offered or available.  

3 Investigating

Activity: Investigating

In pairs, students will pick one of the 8 most common food allergies and will research the manifestation of coming into contact with that food. 

4 Designing Solutions/Communicating Information

Activity: Other — Designing

Based on what they've learned about a specific food allergen, students will design a safety protocol for one of the environments in which a child might encounter the allergen.  Students will then

1) Design training modules that would be given to anyone who worked in that environment.

2) Create a visual to be posted in that environment

3) Create a brochure that educates others about the dangers and safeguards for that allergen within that environment.
