1 Hook

Teacher will use Skype program to video chat with the assistant principal from her office to get children interested in what the program is about and what we will use it for during the project.

2 Direct Instruction

Teacher will explain Skype to the children and why we will be using it.  We will discuss turn taking, manners, digital citizenship, politeness, etc. within our lesson.

Student Instructions

Children will ask and answer questions as necessary.

3 Guided Practice

Teacher will facilitate the questions the children will be answering during the guided practice portion of the lesson.

Student Instructions

Children will ask and answer questions to each other in a partner situation, pretending they are on Skype with another classroom.

4 Independent Practice

Teacher will "call" a partner classroom that will have Flat Wayne in their room in a couple of weeks.  We will practice all of the things learned in the direct instruction/guided practice sessions.

Children will ask and answer questions accordingly within the Skype session with the other classroom.  They will practice taking turns, being polite, asking and answering questions, active listening, etc during the video chats.
