1 Hook

Activity: Other — Watch Video

Teacher will start by showing the video "How to Get a Job As a Teen" (accessible from You Tube). Teacher will explain each step shown on the video as it plays. Video may need to be paused for teacher to explain each step. Once the video is finished, teacher will give students 5 minutes to brainstorm what types of jobs they would be interested in doing when they graduate.

2 Direct Instruction

Activity: Other — Newspaper Clipping Generator, Mock Application

Teacher will make a list of the jobs students have chosen on the whiteboard. This list will be used in the guided practice and independent practice section of the lesson. Teacher will then use a projector to project a mock newspaper classified page (created by the teacher with a variety of jobs on it that students will be able to do once they graduate) on the whiteboard and instruct students on the steps to choose and apply for a job: choosing a job from the paper, calling the phone number/going to the job location, and obtaining an application. Teacher will then project the application on the whiteboard and fill it out, using the school's address and information.

Students will be broken up into groups according to the jobs they chose. Those who chose similar jobs will be grouped together. Students will work together to practice showing interest in the job, obtaining an application, and filling out the application. Groups will demonstrate the aforementioned skills to the class, turning in a completed job application to the teacher.
