New York State Language Standards for Languages Other Than English

Standard 1-Connections- Students will connect with other disciplines and acquire information.

Students reinforce their knowledge of other disciplines through the foreign language, in this particular lesson technology and geography are intertwined into my repertoire, not only to expose students to 21st century digital skills, but also to global/cultural awareness.

Use technology to present information that students learned offline, demonstrating their understanding of the topics discussed, Edmodo.

Use online resources to demonstrate how to cite sources, how to search, summarize, synthesize and present for information they find on the internet.

Use Google Documents to conduct their research.


Standard 2- Culture- Students will gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures.

Use online resources to research information about Spanish Speaking countries in order to understand their culture and traditions.

CCR Writing Standards, 7th Grade –

Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and link to and cite sources as well as to interact and collaborate with others, including linking and citing sources.

             i. Students work on Google Docs, make a copy of a temple given for their research as well as a copy of a self assessment rubric for this project. Students will share and publish their work in the form of a Google Presentation.

CCR Speaking and Listening Standards –

Integrate and evaluate information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally.

              i.  Students use Edmodo, Google maps, and two website to evaluate the information presented and to

                     answer to in written form to higher order thinking questions.

CCR Technology

Students conduct short and well-sustained projects, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.


              i. Students conduct a short research during a 45 minute class activity to find information about a Spanish Speaking Country, cite their sources as they work with cia.gov cite and also textbooks.


Students will use Easybib, an online citation maker, to cite their sources.

Students will use Google Docs,  to take notes and summarize their findings as well as to cite their sources.  

Students will explore two online resources that will help them in their project research for this unit, as well as books

Students will describe what information they can find in the cia website. Information that will be used in their final project. (7 topics)

Students will describe what information their will find in the culture-grams website (10 topics). Information that will be used in their final project.

Students will use Google maps to find a Spanish speaking country of their choice.

Students will recognize the “link” symbol in Google maps.

Students will research about a Spanish speaking country of their choice.

Students will create a Powerpoint, with 5 slides, to organize, and present their research about a Spanish Speaking country of their choice.

1 Classroom Routine

Classroom routine#1:

Greeting students by name, in Spanish, at the door (D2 creating an environment of respect and rapport)

Assign seats to encourage peer tutoring (strong/weak learner)

Formative assessment:

Students will answer to DBQ  on a Note Taking Device and they will self assess their projects base on a students generated rubic .  (This assessment matches objective #6)

Students will submit two citations, one from the CIA website, and another from the Culture-grams website. (This assessment matches objective #4 & 5)


Summative Assessment

Students will research a Spanish Speaking country of their choice by using two website provided for their research.


         1.1 Students will create a Powerpoint presentation in Google Docs. to showcase their findings, and they will link their  Powerpoint to Edmodo for grading and feedback based on a rubric given to students. (This assessment matches objectives #4, #5, #7, #8, #11 and #12)
