Digital Citizenship

To help my Kindergarten class become aware on the importance of being safe on the internet.

Students will be able to describe 3 things that you should not do on the internet, ie, give out names, birthdates, address, username and passwords.

1 Hook

The children will watch a movie on BrainPop Jr. about internet safety.  It will bring attention to some activities that the children may have already experienced on the internet and bring up things that they may of never thought of.

3 Guided Practice

Activity: Conversing

The children will use the lesson, "Follow the Digital Trail" from Commonsense Media and have the whole group discuss items that would be appropriate to put on the internet.  We will make a group chart and place the cards in appropriate and inapproprtiate categories.  

4 Independent Practice

Activity: Assessing

Using the children's writing journal, they are to write/draw about 1 way to be safe on the internet and be able to share their entry with the class and discuss how to be safe with the group.  

5 Wrap-Up

Activity: Assessing

The children, for homework and with parents, will take the Commonsense Media worksheet  home and discuss and answer the questions on the Follow the Digital Trail sheet.  The parents will write a sentence, on the back, about 1 way they will practice internet safety at home.
