The iMovie will give the students a chance to see what a Desert looks like. After we watch the short movie, I will ask the students if they have seen any of these plants or animals anywhere else... maybe at the zoo or maybe plants that live in the desert are at Home Depot for purchase. I am trying to think back and make connection outside the classroom to their learning.
2 Direct Instruction
We will watch the short video on Desert Ecosystems.
3 Guided Practice
I will then ask the students to talk with their shoulder buddy and compile a list of plants and animals that make the desert their home. I will then give them about 5 minutes to talk with their buddy and make a list. I will then ask each group to share 1 plant and 2 animals that make their home in the desert. I will field any questions or concerns at this time about their knowledge on the After each group shares I will ask for any additional questions.
4 Independent Practice
Using Google Drive, I will have the students make a slide show of different plants and animals in the Desert Ecosystem. The students will be placed in groups of 4 and will focus on plants and animals that were discussed in class. Students are encouraged to use pictures and also audio to enhance their slide show. There will be a rubric for this project.
At the end of the lesson, I will ask the students a simple question... "If you took a trip to the Desert what would you see?" I will ask the students to write down a couple things that they would see on a piece of paper. I will then ask them to turn this in to me. This is there exit ticket.
