1 Hook

Students will watch a video about insects - specifically about ants and grasshoppers - to learn characteristics of each. This will be done on the interactive whiteboard. After viewing the video, students will use Google Docs to create a t-chart of adjectives of an ant and grasshopper.

2 Direct Instruction

As a class on the interactive whiteboard, students will watch short videos about characters, character traits, and fables. After viewing, as a class, we will discuss the video.

Students will use Nearpod to read the fable "The Ant and the Grasshopper." Students will underline traits of the ant in red and traits of the grasshopper in blue. After reading the story, as a class, students will use Inspiration to create a Venn Diagram to compare the characters from the story. The teacher will demonstrate using the interactive whiteboard and students will complete this on their devices. As a class, we will also discuss these traits highlighted and the lesson from the fable.

Students will create their own fable in Puppet Pals. Before creating and recording in Puppet Pals, students can write their fables on paper and/or use Google Docs. They will be required to state their "message" or "lesson" at the end of their fable in their Puppet Pals video. Students will use Inspiration to create a Venn Diagram for their fable - comparing the two characters from their created fable.
