-Use the web tool Easelly to input information in a visually appealing and creative compare/contrast infographic.

1 Hook

Activity: Conversing

The teacher will tell show the class the Iqbal side of the Iqbal/Malala picture book to ask for predictions about who this boy is/was.

Student Instructions

The students will draw on prior knowledge of Malala and the political climate of the Middle East to make educated guesses about Iqbal.

2 Direct Instruction

Activity: Reading

The teacher will read the story of Malala, then the story of Iqbal.

Student Instructions

The students will take notes about each person as they listen to the picture book.

3 Guided Practice

Activity: Investigating

The teacher will help the students create a Venn Diagram to organize the facts about Malala and Iqbal into similarities and differences. 

Student Instructions

The students will group the facts about Malala and Iqbal into a Venn Diagram based on their similarities and differences. 

4 Independent Practice

The teacher will review the features of Easelly as a web tool to create infographics.

Student Instructions

The students will choose an infographic template that allows them to visually compare/contrast Malala and Iqbal based on information from the Venn Diagram.

5 Wrap-Up

Activity: Presenting

The teacher will facilitate and offer feedback about each student's presentation.

The students will present their Easelly compare/contrast infographic on the Smart Board so their peers can appreciate how similar information can be presented in unique ways.
