1 Hook

Assess students' prior knowledge the topic/concept by asking this question: List three (3) words you would use to describe... (i.e., topic, concept, story, event, etc.). Students use Socrative to list the three (3) words.

2 Direct Instruction

The teacher uses a prepared Prezi presention to introduce the story/concept/event. Use the multimedia features found in Prezi to add images, video, and audio and build a greater depth of understanding.

3 Guided Practice

Copy the words students listed in Socartive to describe their prior understanding of the topic. Paste the words into Wordle to display the word cloud. Students pair-n-share as they discuss their interpretations of the word cloud and how it relates to the topic. Make sure students understand that the largest words were used more often than the smaller words.

4 Independent Practice

Students create a Venn Diagram to compare/contrast this new topic with a previously mastered concept.

5 Wrap-Up

Use Socartive to distribute/collect an Exit Ticket. The collected data can be used to assess student understanding and guide the direction of the next lesson.
