Ch. 13 Mathematical Practice
1 Ipad Apps
We used Splash Math, Math Bingo, and Division to help understand multiplying and dividing double digit numbers.
Math Bingo - This app allows students to practice double digit multiplication and division through bingo.
Division - This app allows students to practice long division while guiding them as they get correct answers and make mistakes.
Splash Math - This app allows students to do double digit multiplication using several different methods.
2 Virtual Manipulatives
Batter’s Up Baseball Math Game
In this manipulative the student has to answer the multiplication questions to make a homerun or to hit the ball.
In this jeopardy game, students will multiply one and multi-digit numbers. The game is an excellent classroom activity because it has a multi-player feature.
This manipulate uses a multiplication chart to help students multiply double digit numbers.
Key Standards Supported
Number And Operations In Base Ten
Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
Operations And Algebraic Thinking
Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison.1
