Biome Green Screen Travel Commercial Project

1 Introduction to the Project

The students have had two chapters biomes and ecosystems.  They have learneda about the characteristics of the different kinds, as well as the animals and plants that live there.  The students will choose a biome on which to conduct research.  After choosing, they will watch the Do Ink You Tube Video Clip, in order to get an idea of what the finished product might look like.  The tech integrator from my school also created a video for them to see what it will look like when they are finished. The students will use a closed domain google site through Google Apps for Education to access the documents for the project and the research links.

2 Guided/Independent Practice

Activity: Other — Researching

The students will use a selection of vetted websites that I have provided for them to research.  I have listed some here, but others are paid subscriptions that our school has provided such as Grolier, TruFlix, etc.  Students will use these sites and fill out notecards on the following topics.


-Animals and their Adaptations

-Plants and their Adaptations

-Interesting Facts/Things to do









3 Guided/Independent Practice

After taking their note and writing down a "commercial" for how they want to present their researched information, they will then use Google Drive, and Google Slides, to type up their paragraphs. This will be used as a teleprompter when they go to record their biome travel commercial so that they don't have to memorize the entire thing.

Since we will be sharing 4 ipads with 30 students, the students will save their pictures into a folder in Google Drive.  This way when it is their turn to create their green screen video, they can simply pull the pictures down from Drive, into the camera roll, in order to complete the video.

4 Independent Practice

Activity: Other — Recording using the Camera app on the iPad

The students will use the Camera app on the ipad to record their video.  They will set up a laptop next to the person who is videoing so that they can use it as a teleprompter.  They will have a clicker in their hand so that they can advance the slides on their own as they read it.  One person will video while the other recites their commercial.  When recording this video, it must be in a quiet location with a green background. The students also might avoid wearing green.

5 Closure/Wrap Up of the Project

Using both Google Drive, because that is where their pictures are saved, and Green Screen by Do Ink.  The students will follow a printed set of given directions on how to use the app to create their final product of the Green Screen Travel Commercial.  All students videos will then be uploaded to the classroom website for view by parents and families.
