Pose questions through bell work/journal to students and guide them through the different types of macromolecules.
Answer questions and discuss with a partner why they think what they are thinking. Write their answers in their journal.
2 Direct Instruction
Teacher will show students a short overview of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids using youtube.com and searching for Crash Course Biology video #3 then discuss what was learned with the class.
Students will watch the short video and take notes then share notes with a peer.
3 guided practice
Provide the student handout and assist students as they explore the "Identifying Nutrients" gizmo. Teacher will grade this as a lab.
Students will participate using the gizmo and filling in their student handout. Students will ask questions as needed to follow the gizmo.
4 Wrap Up
The teacher will provide instructions and paper for the student to create a foldable about the 4 major macromolecules (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids).
The student will summarize the 4 major macromolecules in a foldable. Students will use their notes, textbook, and partner to best assist in including all information in their foldable. Students will turn this in for a grade and it will be returned to be used as a study aid.
