1 Beginning Writing

Google Drive
Free, Paid

Have students write a first draft of their story. The story can be any topic that you choose or that the student chooses.

Go through the writing process of self editing, peer editing, and teacher editing.  This can also be done using Google Docs, if you are a Google Apps for Education School.

When the story is ready for publishing, move on to the next step.

2 Creating the Digital Book

Book Creator

Instruct students that they will be using the Book Creator app to publish their books.  You may need to walk them through how to use the app.

Book Creator allows you to create an E-Pub book. Students can insert:

  • Text
  • Photographs
  • Video
  • Digital Drawings
  • Audio Recordings

If students prefer to draw with paper and pencil, that is ok. Once a drawing is complete, students can take a picture of their drawing and import it into their book.

Student Instructions

Type your story in Book Creator.

Include illustrations, photos, and/or videos, to help tell your story.

When complete, save the book as an ePub. Share the file with your teachers

3 Publishing the Digital Book

To publish your book, you will need to sign up for an iTunes Connect account, and also set up iTunes Producer.

Once you have these accounts in place, you can begin to publish your student books to the iBooks Store.

Once in the iBooks store, Tweet or Facebook post your students work out to the world. Follow the analytics to see where your student books are being downloaded.
