1 Hook

Activity: Conversing

I willl ask the students what a fraction is? I will ask them what do you call the nujmber on top? on bottom? What does the line between the numbers mean? This is a great way to activate prior knowledge of fractions.

2 Direct Instruction

Picturing fractions is the app I would use. This is a great tool for students to visual fractions and assesss their understanding of fractions.

Introduce pizza and ask students how much pizza do they eat. Have they ever eaten a 1/4 or 1/2 of a pizza? What does 1/4 and 1/2 look like?
