Abyss and Hadal Zone
1 Hook/Attention Getter
The teacher will explain that today we will be discussing the final two ocean zones. However, today the students will be the teachers. One group will research the abyss zone and another group will research hadal zone and create a quiz for the class.
2 Direct Instruction
The teacher will show a map of the zones we will be discussing today in class. The teacher will split the class up into 2 groups. One class will explore the hada zone and the other will explore the abyss zone.
3 Independent Practice
Students will independently view their zone's website and take notes of what they feel are important.
4 Guided Practice
The teacher will instruct the students to work together to make a powerpoint and plicker to go along with their topic.
Students will create a powerpoint to go with their zone. The powerpoint must have at least 5 slides. The plicker must also have at least 5 questions. Students will work together in a group on their project.
5 Wrap Up
Students will present their powerpoint and quizzlets to the class. The teacher will use the powerpoint and plickers as a form of formative assessment for this lesson.
