Have the students come up to the map of the US and show us where they have been and why they went there. This makes the lesson more relatable to students,
Students point at each state and tell us why the liked/disliked going there.
2 Direct Instruction
Have the students take out a blank sheet of paper and give them one to two minutes to name as many states as the can.
Name as many states as you can in one minute.
3 Guided Practice
Give them the 50 state song lyrics and go over it with them, Have the students sing in a group with you singing along. Maybe even have the Youtube video singing with you to keep the rhymth.
Read and sing the song out loud with classmates and teacher.
4 Independent Practice.
Once we have mastered the song. Have each student sing the song out loud to you so you know that they have learned it.
Sing the 50 state song out loud to teacher.
HAve students take out another blank sheet of paper and give the another 1-2 minutes to name as many states as the can. Remind them to remember the state song. See if each student named more than they did at the beginning of the lesson.
Write down as many states as possible.
