How I Use It
Could be used as an introduction to basic journalism instruction or as a method to make sure student writers focus on the details of their own writing. As the simulation guides them to selecting the most interesting questions to ask a skateboarding expert, they could be challenged to write questions to themselves about their own writing as a way to develop additional description, clarity, precision, and more.
My Take
While the progression of tasks is well organized, the "animation" is going to be viewed as "old-fashioned" and even "boring." It has the look of a 1990s digital event, rather than a 2016 hip product. Skateboarding itself is interesting to many urban kids, but there are no images of skateboards, skateboarding, skate parks, or anything else associated with the topic until the "adult skater" shows up at the end. Even with these flaws, however, the tool can be a useful introduction, and students can be challenged to make their own "interview video" based on the learning gained from the simulation.
