How I Use It
Learning how to type for many students can be a daunting and challenging task. If a student is a SpongeBob fan then this software is fun to use because it includes Patrick, Mr. Krabs and the entire cast of the SpongeBob Squarepants show. The software comes with good features such as; tracking speed and accuracy, a virtual keyboard, and activities and quizzes. The game tours students through the Bikini Bottom setting of the show by using a typing under-sea typing tournament but although the tour is fun, it can be distracting especially for beginners. I would recommend that students who have used a keyboard before use the software because they can enjoy the game and would be less likely to keep looking at the keyboard keys to learn. The beginner students missed much of the game because of focusing on their fingers and the keyboard.
This software can be used best as a practice tool. For students who are just beginning to learn how to type, SpongeBob telling jokes as students help him win a typing tourney can be distracting. The game side to the software can be fun for those who have beginner typing skills. There are very good practice drills and many challenge levels. The tournament lessons are good for practice and assessment because the software keeps track of lessons and skills that need improvement and also allow students to print their accomplishments. For the price this software is not a bad deal and works on the Mac & PC.
