How Can Teachers Use It?

In Monster Music, students must use concepts of electricity to create CDs to reinvigorate a musically deprived city. They link patterns to help visualize electricity as a form of energy moving through space. It's an effective way to introduce electricity conceptually and would work as a great starter activity. Like all Possible Worlds games, Monster Music has an extensive set of supplementary resources that can be used with the game. Accessing these resources allows teachers to conduct most of an entire unit around Monster Music.

Monster Music also lends itself well to cross-curricular exploration: Students have to put sentences in order, adding a language arts component, and with the musical theme, they could have a great discussion across three subject areas. In addition to using the game as presented, teachers could encourage students to create their own puzzles using electrical conduits, or to do some creative writing (especially news articles, which the game frequently features) to go along with gameplay.
