How I Use It
I teach a unit on Urbanisation with Grade 6. I let my students sign up during class time for Plan It Green. I required all my students to start on their cities for homework that night. From then on, I made it an option during choice time. Quite a few played in class during choice time and a smaller number played outside of class for a long time after the unit ended.
My Take
Plan It Green helps students explore some of the elements of a successful and sustainable city. Obviously the emphasis here is on environmental factors (which may or may not dovetail with everyone's curriculum). It's a good way to approach urban planning and design for students who have likely had other opportunities to learn about environmental issues before in other contexts.
