How I Use It
I used Minecraft as a project option for creating cell models in my 7th grade life science class. The kids who understand Minecraft and can translate their ideas to the 'canvas' of Minecraft did an excellent job with their cell models. I had a handful of students use this method as opposed to an actual 3-D model. The challenge was creating rounded objects in a square world, but several kids really created great representations of cells. I will continue to suggest it as an option for those interested students
Limited use in my classroom thus far as a project tool. I like the freedom it provides students to create in their own image and to translate their ideas into an image or scene. If it had more freedom and choices, I would assign it for our Biome project, where kids must create a diorama that represents one of the major earth biomes. Unfortunately they need to be able to put in animals and specific types of plants.
