How I Use It
I used this site in my computer lab to expose students to new games besides those they always wanted to play on CoolMath.com. It was also a great way to promote problem solving and conversation between students. I originally intended to use it with 4th and 5th grade students but younger siblings soon found out about it and I used it all the way down to my 2nd grade classes. It takes little to no set up. Some of my students chose to sign in with their Google accounts (my school uses GAFE) but that is only necessary to save their work. Many of my students did discover the cheat blogs out on the net which does pull away from some of the problem solving.
My Take
I think it is a fun and addictive game. You quickly find yourself lost in it while you create a unicorn, zombie, or simply outer space. While I didn't directly teach the game to my students, I did need to circulate and expose some students to a few of the features. Some of the computers in my lab would save previous students' progress and students needed to know how to reset the game. I'm always looking for the next, new game to show my students and this was one they enjoyed - at school and home.
