How I Use It
I tried to use it as an individual approach with my 3-6 graders learning block programming, everyone learning at their own pace, but this didn't work well due to the inadequate tutorials. More so, it would be better to have groups of 2 work together & follow along with the teacher, just initially to get the feel of things. Then maybe they could go off on their own. If the students were familiar with MineCraft or if they were the type to be persistent & try various ways of working, they could be successful, however, many of my students are not overly persistant & it just became frustrating.
I was excited by this because there were tutorials that I thought would guide my students & I through the learning process. However, this is not the case. The tutorial sets you up but doesn't really follow through with explaining how to accomplish what it set out to do. An experienced programmer will have to do a lot of experimenting to get the feel of the land before they figure out what they have to do. My younger students lost interest because they weren't sure what they were supposed to be doing.
