How I Use It
I and an elementary teacher and have been using DreamBox as a key part of my math program. I use it as part of my Guided Math Program and is a center where the students can easily log on and get started on the lesson I have set up. Some days are DreamBox Days and we will spend more time working on the computer to answer questions. What works is me having the students become excited about using the program and engaging them in the program as a whole! What doesn't work is having the class think of DreamBox as an added "chore" or "homework"... Nope, Dreambox is a visual engagement that is able to grab the learners attention and at the same time be guided by the teacher to make the learning time well spent! It "draws in" the engagement of admin, parents, and teachers!
I was a little skeptical at first (because my kids had only used Prodigy for math lessons). But, since the beginning of the school year, I have noticed that my students have "come around" to the DreamBox math program and really enjoy the interactive online math games (similar to manipulatives) and as an educator, I can align math lessons with the Ontario Curriculum and monitor their individual progress. The fact that this program is able to "change" according to the student's level of understanding is amazing! Personalizing the instruction is what make this Math Program stand out from the rest and I have now joined the DreamBox bandwagon and have nothing but positive comments about this equitable program that reaches my lowest struggling students all the ways up to my more stronger students that need to be challenged! I can even follow their growth and watch Webinars that answer any questions or concerns that I may have while using this program! Very pleased and looking forward to using Dreambox in the Fall with my Junior Level students to help them become successful learners with math added math confidence!
