Cyberbullying is at top of mind for lots of schools and parents right now, but it can be a tough subject to tackle with your students and their families. Our discussion guides are designed to give you a place to start.

In the classroom (or “with students”): All of the lessons within our Connected Culture unit contain teaching plans for discussing cyberbullying and related issues with students, but Cyberbullying: Crossing the Line from our middle school curriculum is especially great for this purpose. It includes a documentary-style video featuring a student who experienced cyberbullying as well as an accompanying discussion guide you can use to facilitate conversation with and among students. The lesson is written for students in grades 6-8, but we’ve heard from some elementary teachers that they’ve found it appropriate for grades 4-5 as well.
In the community (or “with parents”): Our Cyberbullying Discussion Guide includes thought-provoking questions and scenarios to get parents talking about this tricky subject. You may also want to show our Cyberbullying tip video before starting this conversation, and it’s a great idea to send parents home with our Cyberbullying tip sheet to give them some further guidance on how to broach this topic with their kids.
