How I Use It
I've used Toontastic as a review for students at the end of a story in reading. Students can make new endings to the story or retell the story using Toontastic. It also teaches students about plot, setting, characters, climax, rising and falling action, and resolution. Each of these literary elements could be the focus of any Toontastic cartoon. Toontastic can also be used to talk about scientific concepts in story form. For example, students could use the space theme to tell a story about astronauts going to the space station. In the story, students can use vocabulary learned in class to enhance their story.
My Take
Toontastic is the best App out there for storytelling in the Elementary School Grades. The App works well because it engages students while also teaching them how to tell a story the right way using the story arc. Using Apple's App Store Volume Purchasing Program (ASVPP), the All Access is only $9.99 each. That gives you access to all of the current and future backgrounds and characters. The folks at Launchpad Toys have been continuously updating the App to make it better after each update. Their website also includes lesson plans from Launchpad Leaders to give teachers ideas on how to use Toontastic with their students.
