How I Use It
I have used Toontastic with struggling reader's to retell parts of novels that they have read for class in order to improve comprehension. Students have also taken it a step further and used it to create new endings to various chapters and to the novel as a whole. They have also created epilogues to the novels using Toontastic. Struggling readers and ELL students have found this a useful and FUN tool!
Toontastic allows students to create original stories, retell stories for comprehension, or rework stories in a hands-on and creative manner. The app provides the elements of the story arc (setup, conflict, challenge, climax, and resolution) that the students can follow or rearrange to their liking. A bountiful selection of backgrounds, characters, and props are available or students can draw a background or use a picture from the device on which they are working. The device speaker is used to record which is good for when more than one student is working on a Toon, but can pick up outside sounds as well. Completed Toons can be viewed on the device or shared on Toontastic's own ToonTube.
