How I Use It
Kindergarten students completed a four square organizer to generate a set of cohesive ideas for a short story. Then we moved to the iPad app and worked to select a background and characters for the story. For Kindergarten, we used a 3 part story, but the app allows for the inclusion of many events. Each event has a background and characters. The characters can be re-colored, if the student desires. Once those are selected, students add audio and then select an emotion which sets the music for that story segment. In the end, the story is put together into a video that can be shared by email or through a Toon Tube (free) account.
The students learned about telling a story in more than one scene and were able to navigate the app in groups of two very easily!
Toontastic has a great method for creating multimedia stories. Students have the opportunity to learn about the building blocks of story writing as they weave characters, emotion, and thoughts together in a creative way.
