How I Use It
I would use this app as a daily warm up for writing as well as a homework tool. Student are given a writing prompt including; who, what, when, where and a detail and have to create a story using them. Using this will help students understand parts of a story and help them understand the elements that make good writing/stories. Doing warm up drills in class helps with creativity, imagination, organizing thoughts as well as gets students used to writing on a daily basis. Since this app allows you to email your story, students can use it at home and send their writing to the teacher without chance of it getting lost. I tried it myself and was intrigued by the choices that were given.
This app is great for my special education class. They get to write by typing which is beneficial to many with fine motor weaknesses. It also gives them a starting place to be creative. It allows for editing and revision. One feature is a spell correcting option. I have used real Popsicle sticks in class with the same concept, this is more engaging because it is on an IPad and students like to use them in class.
I would definitely try it out if I was a teacher in elementary school to assist in getting reluctant students or students with a writing deficit to write daily.
