How I Use It
Used extensively in the beginning of the year as we focus on one letter a week. We would practice whole group on the SMART board and then have students explore individually. The great graphics grab students attention. There are printables that are easy for parents to understand and relate directly to what we practiced at school that day. This is a great tool during Daily 5 for early finshers. Starfall enhances specifically kindergarten work in the areas of rhyming, word families, and syllables. There are different levels so that it helps high, on target and low students.
Uses real life vocabulary that primary students can understand.
Teaches phonics in an engaging way. Starfall can show my students how to form letters etc in a way that I could never do. It catches their attention, thus making learning in my classroom more effective. The one downfall that I have seen in Starfall is that there is no way to track student progress. I would like to be able to monitor more of what they are doing while in this app. Overall, it is effective in teaching letter recognition into reading basics, it has good pacing, and the best feature yet, is the coordinating print out option. Overall, I would recommend Starfall in any classroom.
