How I Use It
I use ShowMe to record myself teaching a tricky concept and then I post the video on my blog for parents and students to view from home. The students in my class use ShowMe to demonstrate how they solve various math word problems. This allowed students to really reflect on the steps that they take during math. It forced them to think about their thinking. Children were able to easily record the video again if they did not think they were clear enough. We then shared the videos with each other in class and I posted them on my blog. Both of these activities worked very well in my classroom and I intend on repeating them this year.
ShowMe is one of my favorite apps. I did check out a few other free apps that were similar to this one (like Educreations). I like the fact that this app is so simple to use. My students are in 1st grade and they were able to create ShowMe videos independently with only 1 brief practice session. One of my favorite features of this app and one that sets it apart from Educreations is I was able to grab html code from the completed ShowMe video and embed it into my blog. Some other apps only give you links to see the finished video on their website. The only thing I wished ShowMe had was the option to change the image during a recording. However, it seems like a recent update has fixed that problem.
