How I Use It
I would use this tool to introduce students to the process of coding OR to enrich a lesson on sequencing (specifically in reading or science). The project I created to accompany this was generic: your character has a problem that he needs to solve. Help him/her find a tool to solve this problem by moving around the screen. I would ask advanced learners to include specific pieces of code: a repeated line, a delayed movement, or a recorded sound. Students might need varied times to plan, attempt, and revise their codes. I intend to use this with my 3-5th graders who are looking for ways to reinforce reading skills (+ direction following).
I love that the interface is easy to use and that there are NUMEROUS available features. The parts of code are organized by color and type (movement, start, end, repeat, etc) which makes it easy for students to go back or adjust. The characters, settings, and objects are all adjustable, which my students love. I also love how easy it is to incorporate with a language arts lesson. Students are learning basic coding skills AND practicing their reading and writing skills. LOVE this app.
