How I Use It
This app is an engaging means of practicing SAT vocabulary words, most likely independently, but it could be used as whole class activity with the iPad connected to an LCD projector. The TeachMe section contains all the elements on one screen to learn and remember the words. Students could work in groups to memorize the words and sentences to present to the group. The Test section would be best done independently, maybe as homework or seatwork. Create your own playlist was a little more time intensive but would be excellent for tough to recall words. The option to buy more words is available for $2.99 which is a fairly low price.
My Take
Studying for the SAT Is tedious and usually not a lot of fun. This app makes it more fun and interesting. It was easy to start using the app and the professional audio voices were excellent. The major reason this app works so well for students' memory is due to the fact that the rhymes are catchy and the audio voices are adjusted to the word (for example the slovenly is spoken is a slow, lazy manner) which makes listening to the sentences enjoyable and memorable. The audio rhymes would be extremely helpful for low literacy or ELL. The audio comments voices were creative and made it more personal, but can be turned off if students prefer. The app teaches the vocabulary words in a way that students would remember the meanings easily. Overall, this is one of the better SAT vocab prep apps out there and a great tool to prepare for the big test.
