How I Use It
I upload our vocabulary units to Quizlet bi-weekly. We alternate between Flocabulary units and Roots/Affixes Unit. During our two week unit study, student practice spelling, basic definitions, as well as context clues practice through this application. Students have time during the class to practice Quizlet and they are encouraged (and rewarded!) for participating at home. Quizlet allows for students to practice in a variety of ways that range in difficulty levels. After using Quizlet, scores increased from a 50% pass rate to an consistent 85% pass rate. In addition, because of their understanding of the terms, roots, and affixes, students were able to incorporate these words in daily language and formal writing. I liked the fact that I could put in a set of vocabulary words for the whole class, then duplicate and edit these lists for ELL and special needs students.
I found Quizlet to be extremely beneficial to me and my students. Students constantly raved about this tool because it allowed them continuous practice without ever getting boring. They enjoy competing against each other, but I love the smiles I see on their faces when they beat themselves! I rave about this tool, because it gave me a paperless way of giving my students a study resource. This tool benefits every learner and on top of that it's all free.
