How I Use It
I bring out a robot from my 7th and 8th grade classes and show them how it works. We then talk about working with robots and how we get started. Many students initially are not interested in working with robots or programming. Many of my students are ELL and low literacy and are intimidated and think robots are too complex to work with let alone figure out how to program them. However almost all students are familiar with classroom technology and are quick to embrace it. The drag and drop feature is something most students are familiar with from other apps that they use daily. They are challenged and engaged and truly enjoy their experience. Next year we will see it helps when they build a program a real robot.
Many of my students think of robots as a Transformer or a R/C car. Having a app as easy as this one for students to be engaged with is a great transition tool
