How I Use It
I use this app to build and reinforce number lines. This app is wonderful for helping students practice number lines and place numbers in order. I use it is small groups and one one one practice. The students are given a number line, then bubbles with random numbers flow above the line, and the students must place them. They find where the number goes, then pop the number above the spot. The students work as a team to fill in the missing numbers. They must move the line and find the the spot where the missing number will go. It starts of simple, with the students simply putting the numbers in the spots below, then becomes harder. They students must move the number line around and find the spot in which it belongs. It may not be visible, making the students use their thinking skills. They must also count both forwards and backwards. So it keeps them thinking. I use this app in small groups with students who are struggling with counting cardinally and placing numbers in order. We work as a team to find where the number will go. If we are an the number 15, how many spots do we have to move forward or backward to place the number 5 on the line. We then work together to determine whether 5 is larder or smaller that 15, and where on the number line it will go. It really makes the students think and keeps them involved throughout the game.
My Take
I think this game is a great way to reinforce number line skills. Students are engaged and work as a team to fill in the missing numbers. I think they concept is wonderful. Students that struggle with counting and comparing numbers will greatly benefit from this app. They will have to think of where the number goes and how many spaces away it will go. They also have to consider the numbers around it and the concept of one forward and one backwards. It also helps students when they are learning to add and subtract. They learn to better understand numbers.
