How I Use It
I have used Hungry Fish with my second graders, who just loved it! The app offers fun practice for addition and subtraction, including negative numbers. It is a great way for students to practice their mental math skills. Students make sums by pinching two numbers together. The game speeds up and uses higher sums as a student gets more correct answers. Students make a fish avatar and add new colors and fins as they win new levels. My students loved the game and were very excited about their fish.
My Take
This resource is terrific for young students to practice their addition/subtraction facts. It provides many opportunities for students to visualize addition as the bringing together of two amounts, as well as supporting number bonding by providing a variety of ways to sum to a certain number. This resource is intended for independent practice, rather than direct instruction.
