Great app to get kids thinking "outside of the box" with fact families!

How I Use It
In this app students have to combine numbers to reach a specific sum. How they combine them is up to the student which encourages creative thinking. Speed is a factor (if they don't work fast enough the hungry fish will die). We used the apps with a traveling iPad cart to introduce students to the iPads. It was a huge hit with students from first to fourth grade!
My Take
Kids LOVED this app and were very engaged, despite some finding it a bit difficult. My experience was that this had a tendency to challenge rather than discourage them. I loved that the level could be adjusted for students and that difficulty increased as they worked. The interface was engaging without being distracting to the point of the goal being lost. I didn't recommend it for ELLs only because the concept would be difficult to explain to students with limited english proficiency. I was sad when this app was no longer free.
