How I Use It
I have used this app for many years for all levels in my classroom. The scaffolding choices for the struggling learner mean that ANY child can be successful. The challenge of the crossword/ any words/ diagraphs, etc make it fun for even strong students. (I teach 1st grade) I find it really interesting that the gentle, quiet, simple reward structure is so appealing for ALL of my students over many years. And children really do self monitor moving along to the next puzzle even though they could just play on the reward screen forever without moving on. I love the creative, gentle, open ended reward. I love the color coded alphabet, the option to gray out unnecessary letters, the set up for forcing kids to sound out in order or allow them to go out of order, etc. It is all good.
I have 6 iPads. I use it in centers. I use it in RTI groups while I am working with or assessing a single child, I use it as a 'reading choice' during Reading workshop. I recommend it to parents as a phone or tablet app at home.
Excellent, See my comments above.
